Polyweekly Postponed

Due to an extremely unfortunate coffee spill on my laptop, Polyweekly is postponed until such time as it can be (hopefully) repaired.

Poly Weekly Listener Poll #2: Podcast Content

Hello, again!

OK, last few items, I swear! In an attempt to improve PW content (Power to the Poly People!), I’d love to know stuff like when and how you listen to PW and what you like or don’t like about the show. No fancy prize giveaways, but you get yummy improved show content if you take a few minutes to answer these questions!

Polyamory Weekly Listener Poll #1 of 2

OK, so I’m asking for your help! No big prizes, but, after 14 months on the air, I’m working hard to improve show content and format. If you have a few spare minutes, would y’all mind telling me a little about who you are and what you care about?

PW #58 Show Notes

0:00 Introduction
Intro, under-18 warning and re-direction to www.scarleteen.com. Thanks to (a professional voiceover guy!) for the voiceover warning.

1:30 Fun with Frappr
minx muses over new additions to Polyamory Weekly Frappr Map

3:25 Listener mail
Filippo wrote in to describe the benefits of his poly family/relationship; 4:40 audio comment from a listener from Orange County, CA for whom PW was his intro to poly; 6:00 audio comment from a poly-friendly girl who comments on the poly skills that go into her relationships and on Buffy erotica; 10:25 audio comment from our buddy Jason in Virginia who comments on libido being comparable to cake

11:50 Topic: Online dating
minx confirms that OK Cupid doesn’t allow anyone with STD’s; Jason suggested pearz.com as a poly-friendly site; this article Match.com Mistakes Bisexuals for Swingers confirms that Match’s policy is monogamy, so the human reviewing your bisexual profile thinks you can’t be monogamous, you will be rejected. And Yahoo! personals has a similar policy. Kinksters might try collarme.com.

16:25 Poly in the Media
Check out Mistress Matisse’s interview with a poly couple in the Stranger; (mini-plug for her S.O. Monk of TwistedMonk.com; 18:30 Women in Love film review; 19:20 Boston Herald piece of crap so-called article on the Boston poly group. What, this person is a “real” journalist but I’m not? Puh-leeze!

LJ poll question

OK, technical question: I’m creating a poll for PW listeners so I can work to improve show content. It seems that I can create a poll question with boxes to check OR with a text box, but not with both. How would I create a question such as:

I identify as…
[] male
[] female
[] transgendered
[] other (please explain) [with a text box here to write in]

Any idea how to do that?

When did that happen?

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Technorati or Google search for “Polyamory Weekly,” to see if anything had been written about the podcast. Not much new on Technorati, but on Google I saw this: the Wikipedia entry for Polyamory. OK, must be a mistake, I figured.

But no. If you scroll down to the very bottom, under “Resources,” (and I mean the VERY bottom!), there it is. Tiny little PW, linked to from Wikipedia. Kinda cool.

0:00 Introduction
Intro, under-18 warning and re-direction to www.scarleteen.com. Thanks to (a professional voiceover guy!) for the voiceover warning.

1:30 Listener mail
Mysteryloca, a lover of (who has a great new podcast, BTW, at A New Love Movement) writes in to comment on when to come out as poly (first date) and about it being OK to have pictures of people you love at work.

7:45 Resource: Poly dating sites
Since some sites will boot you off if you admit that you’re poly, try PolyMatchMaker.com or OKCupid.com for personal ads in which you can be honest about your lifestyle and orientation.

9:55 Announcement
The official announcement for the Kinsey Institute‘s upcoming new poly collection is here.
Also, CARAS is a new academic group, the first research organization dedicated to good research of the alternate sexuality communities.

11:50 A word from this week’s sponsor

12:35 Topic: How’s Your Sex Drive?
Musings on sex drive and on being familiar with your sexuality and sex drive, along with what the minx has learned (a bit late) over the years. What do you think?

22:40 Poly in the Media
Polyamory: A Twist on Polygamy is a fairly balanced, well-researched article in which the journalist actually interviewed a polyandrous household (yes, that’s a woman with more than one male partner). Here’s to quality journalism!

PW #56 Show Notes

The new Polyamory Weekly #56 is up! Direct download is here.

0:00 Introduction
Intro, under-18 warning and re-direction to www.scarleteen.com. Thanks to for the voiceover warning.

1:30 Listener mail
2:30 OhPun comments on poly photos in the office and minx muses about how to feel out her vanilla potential dates on the poly front; 8:10 Scaramouche says in an audio comment that it’s OK to use the show for personal dating advice

9:35 Topic: Poly and legal issues
Amiee sent in two documents, including one by Elizabeth Emens entitled Monogamy’s Law: Compulsory Monogamy and Polyamorous Existence, which sounds very poly-friendly; and another document by Maura Strassburg. I do not yet have permission to reprint these, so no links yet.

13:15 Announcement
For those who are into BDSM, check out Leather Retreat happening on June 21-23rd.

14:10 A poly comedienne
In the Feast of Fools podcast #300, a Chicago-based podcast focused on the gay lifestyle, the hosts interview comedienne Margaret Cho, who speaks nonchalantly about being poly being more “realistic” and “normal.”

16:15 Poly in the Media
Despreocupado sent in Three’s Company: What the heck is polyamory and is it a legitimate way to sustain a romantic relationship? by Liz Langley. More interesting than the article itself are the 151 comments on it, with opinions ranging from the steadfastly monogamous to the misinformed to the poly-educated proclaiming the value of choosing a poly family. 23:00 Amy Gahran sent in this article on Beltane events in Philadelphia, including a commentary on polyamory and jealousy. 26:00 I don’t really disagree too much with the issues as to why the polygamy portrayed in Big Love don’t work that William Saletan enumerates in this article, Big or Me.

Er… wow

Just got off the phone with Ken Haslam (well, technically, off Skype, but you know what I mean), and I’m so excited! With decades of poly experience behind him, he’s spent the last six or seven years working as an activist for the poly community–and he’s agreed to do an interview when he’s in town next week! He is an absolute pleasure to talk to, so I’m looking forward to interviewing him for PW.

He’s also the generous donor who initiated the polyamory collection at the Kinsey Institute, and get this–they want to put all the PW archives on DVD for access in the polyamory collection at the Kinsey.

Gee, now I’m really wishing that I’d rambled a lot less on the show!
