1:30 Announcement: Chicago Poly Book Club
This is the Poly Book Club, a fun discussion group for anyone who’s been *meaning* to read those books on poly but hasn’t quite got around to it. Or for those who read the books but didn’t have anyone like-minded to discuss the more interesting questions with!

Our first book will be one I’ve been dying to read, Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless and Hopeful, by Anthony Ravenscroft.

Other details:

When: Wednesday, January 30th, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Where: The Center on Halsted lobby/social area (by the fireplace), 3656 North Halsted Street
What: Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless and Hopeful discussion
Why: ‘cuz it’ll be fun!

I’ll post again as we get closer to the date, but please do RSVP if you’d like to attend so that I’ll know how many folks to expect. You don’t have to have read the book to attend–you can just join in the discussion and meet poly folks, anyway!

Want to join in the discussion but aren’t in Chicago? Log on to the Poly Weekly Book Club Skypecast on Saturday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. Central

2:30 Announcement: Sex 2.0 conference
On April 12, 2008, come to the Sex 2.0 conference in Atlanta

3:30 Topic: You’re fat! How much honest communication is too much honest communication?
The original column was from Dan Savage here; the feedback response column is here; what do you think? Is there any way to tell a woman that her body isn’t as sexy as it used to be? Is that too much honest communication?

16:30 Feedback
RatBastid writes in with a heartwarming story

I just listened to Poly Weekly #138.

Awesome! This was right up my alley and one of my favorite topics of
discussion. Honesty along with images of beauty.

I go for the honesty in relationship. Not obnoxious on-your-face,
vindictive honesty which I call ‘active-aggressive’: but honesty that
comes from a point of caring and good communication.
Here’s my case-in-point: While out bicycling with my girlfriend she
once said “You know …….. I really like men who are slim?” (I was
5′ 10 and 130 pounds then). My reply was “So what are you doing with
me?” It was a rhetorical reply. I knew the answer :)
My point is that, partly as a result of her kind words, I actually
lost about 15 pounds in weight since then. So her honesty had
addressed an important issue to her. Then, unhurt, I responded with
action as her intentions were positive.

On women’s images of beauty: my gf is now 24 weeks pregnant and looks
great with it too, tho she sees herself quite differently. Big belly!
gigantically, large breasts! Well duh she is pregnant and I love every
pregnant t bit of her :)

BTW I work as a digital photo retoucher so I create images of perfect
beauty every day. But women (in particular) pleeeeeeease don’t believe
the visual bs. NOBODY and mean NOBODY looks that perfect. It’s a lot
    of digital manipulation.

If I may quote the artist De La Vega
“Beauty magazines make my girlfriend feel ugly”
