Poly Weekly Book Club: Wednesday, February 27th

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the Poly Weekly Book Club last night! We ended up with about a dozen folks, all heatedly discussing Ravenscroft’s book. Some had read the book in its entirety; some still had it on order; some (like me) had read about half. One guy even drove in from Green Bay just for the event! (But we all think he’s crazy)

We talked about the poly community (whether there was one), the significance of labels like primary/secondary and why we treat people the way we do; converting to poly being as all-encompassing as converting to a new religion; why the print in the book is so damn tiny; and why there are no good resources for secondaries out there.

After three hours, the group felt there was still more to discuss, so we’re going to finish the book and continue discussing it next month. So, for next month:

Wednesday, February 27th, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Poly Weekly Book Club

Anthony Ravenscroft’s Polyamory: Roadmaps for the Clueless and the Hopeful, Redux
The Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted

We dont’ have a meeting room, so look for us on the second floor on the white sofas.

  • Wish I’d been there!

Because he needed an editor (like me) who could have cut the book by 20% without losing anything that it says — and made it a better read — by trimming the verbiage.

Anthony, if you read this and are planning a second edition, you could talk me into offering a free edit job. If you’d like to see what I’d propose to do, send me a sample section as plain text or a Word doc:

(Also, the margins are larger than necessary. Smaller margins would have allowed bigger type.)

    Well, there’s
    http://www.xeromag.com/fvsecondary.html

Someone want to start a PolySecondaries LJ or Yahoo group?
