6:00 Topic: 50 Shades of Myth

If you’ve been hearing about 50 Shades of Gray, you know that it’s pretty lame and inaccurate. Not surprising, as it was written by a fanfic writer with absolutely no experience in or research into BDSM at all. And this article goes into the assumptions about how and why people engage in BDSM that the book gets wrong.

Yes, the book sucks as a piece of literature. But rather than focusing on how wrong the book is, might you consider that it is a great place for new people to start their interest in the sunbject? We were all beginners at one time and many of the haters are sounding like snobby BDSMer than thou sort of folks. All the nay saying is scaring off a lot of noobs. Lead with the positive, then correct the book’s obvious mistakes. Sunny Megatron did a great article on this subject http://sunnymegatron.com/2012/06/01/sex/stop-hating-on-50-shades-of-grey/

I am writing in respose to your podcast, (I am in Australia)… Loved it and it was great to hear. I had read the books and thought it was an over the top, unrealistic Mills and Boon take on the whole senario… Although some of the sex scenes made this forgivable!! However when I read the book it did make me take a hard look at myself and think about what really made me tick.. I spent a lot of time on google and talking with my open-minded friends and my realisation was that I am a submissive and I know that this is something that I really need to explore. So I am embarking my road to discovery and I am looking forward to having a far more fulfilling sex life in the future now the light has dawned!! Keep the great podcasts coming, Love listening!!
