5:00 Topic: Showtime’s new reality show on polyamory

Showtime has a new reality show called Polyamory: Married and Dating. It follows a triad and a quad and the conversations, conflicts and undercover action they experience. But is it any good?

What do we think? LustyGuy admires the craft and believes it fits the genre and audience expectations for Showtime After Dark perfectly. Minx (not a fan of reality TV in general) finds the characters accessible, far more so than anyone portrayed in Big Love or Sister Wives. While many of the characters annoy her personally and don’t impress her with their low level of emotional intelligence, the show is a far more accurate portrayal of polyamory than anything we’ve seen in the mainstream so far, and many of the characters do model good communication skills and emotionally intelligent behavior.

And special thanks to Scott Campbell for making it possible for us to view the episodes!

  • The groups they show are a bit odd themselves, but it does appear authentic and a good expose of the lifestyle…

  • I liked the general discussion, including looking at the show as entertainment (which it is, first and foremost) versus a representative of polyamory.

One niggle on a quick comment from LustyGuy: True that women do not have to be bisexual to be swingers, but swinging still really caters to heterosexual men. Women can (often seen as “should”) be bisexual, but male bisexuality is still so taboo among swingers.

(I know; this was not the topic on hand and it was just a three-second comment, but this bugs the heck out of me.)

Thanks for again mentioning “Family” from 3 Dog Pictures. I recalled you mentioning it from previous podcasts, but never was at my computer to go check it out. While I am not interested in “Polyamory: Married and Dating,” I am interested in “Family.”

    • Wow, did that not work right! Hey, can someone tell me how to retract that statement? The comment I made was:
I/We are just happy to see this brought into the light of day. We have a second or third Generation Tamily tradition poli-person in our group, and we have adventures on a regular basis by design. We like the Showtime show, (Natalia is the best!) But we think that other efforts should be made as well, we are trying to talk Showtime/Natalia into coming to this coast, so please write the Sho.com and express an interest. Thank you in advance, and feel free to visit our Facebook page, and give us a thumbs up (“Like” us)www.facebook.com/PolyamoryUnbucklingTheBibleBelt
