  • Congratulations on your commitment ceremony. Have a terrific trip!

I liked LustyGuy’s points that the point of things like ring shopping isn’t about the details (“tactics”, I think he called them) like getting precisely the same rings, but instead that those details symbolize what it **really** is about: the participants being happy and having things that make them happy while serving the purpose of being reminders.

(Could that sentence be any more confusing and awkward?)

I do disagree with Minx’s assessment that “we” get bogged down with the thinking insinuated by society’s monogamy standard; maybe you are projecting a bit there? Personally, back when I got married monogamously (before our current considerations of polyamory), I did not about getting a one true ring; we just got a couple nice designs from Etsy so we wouldn’t be empty-handed for the ceremony. Maybe, rather than subconsciously processing a monogamous standard, you just wanted to really enjoy the ring you expect to wear for at least a full year.

In any case, have a good ceremony!

Have you considered submitting your story to OffBeatBride.com? That would be awesome. I believe they have one example on there of a poly commitment ceremony. :-) I would love to see more.
