  1. Hi,
Here’s a study that finds there’s no significant correlation between circumsision and lower STD infection rates. (Australia, 1994)

Here’s an overview of a study that does find a correlation (but it does not carry into cervical cancer rates in women) – and it’s a little more recent, 2002.

I’d like to hear about other studies.

  2. I read a couple of references that “male genital mutilation” reduces the risk of STDs. There is no general recommendation to circumcision though as there are many unsolved ethical topics. See the UN-Report at
Also, I want to draw attention to the Sex is Fun episode #48 on Circumcision and Foreskin Restoration(, where that topic is discussed. I agree to Kidders point that as the UN has to fight a pandemic in Africa all measures have to be taken into consideration. Whereas in other countries you can educate, use condoms, have higherhygiene standards etc.

    Thanks for the show,

  3. Hey Guys,

i’m new here, but i thought i say my part:

What’s funny: Even Wikipedia has it:

And plenty sources to get to know more in the article as well, as it seems.

I certainly remember, that i heard a german science podcast about this WHO-study, claiming it has something to do with certain types of cells (can it be Langhans-cells or something?) being less activ by circumcised men, thus reducing the risk of contracting… My memory gets kind of blurry here.
But they made very clear, as wikipedia does, that circumcision reduces the risk of contracting, not granting some sort of immunity. Which seems important to point out.

    Thanks for your shows minx,
