posted a mini-rant about Leo Laporte’s dismissal of Violet Blue as “that porn person,” which piqued my interest.

Then he posted a link to Violet’s response, which was reasoned, intelligent and articulate, three things to love about her as well as three reasons she’s NOT “that porn person.” She’s a sex-positive educator. Why is that so hard to say?

My own rant:

Leo, she’s the one that is making sure that your sons, daughters, nieces and nephews (metaphorically; I’ve no idea if you have any) don’t think that they can’t get pregnant the first time, that the pill protects against STD’s, that masturbation is unusual behavior and that exploring sexual fantasies is unhealthy. She’s the one making sure that the next generation knows how to use a condom properly and how to guard against herpes. She’s the one saving marriages and relationships by helping consenting adults explore their healthy, natural sexuality together. She’s the one seeking out great GLBT erotica so that the non-het population can hear that others are like them and that’s OK. She’s the one TALKING about healthy sexuality and fantasy, something that many adults are afraid to do.

She is not “that porn person.” She is an educator who sees sex as a positive, healthy part of adult life, and you should be damn grateful that she is.
